Voices

Every meditation in Open Meadow is read aloud by a voice you choose. This page introduces all of them: what they sound like, where they come from, and how to pick the one that fits your practice.

Every voice below can be played. Tap one to hear it read the same short meditation passage.

Premium voices

Premium voices are generated with ElevenLabs, one of the leading text-to-speech systems. They are included with the subscription, the trial, and extra credits.

All of them speak many languages, although they are currently optimized for English and may lose quality in some languages. Here you can try them in a selection of languages.

Find a comfortable sitting position, whether on a chair, cushion, or directly on the ground…”

Every preview reads the same three sentences, starting with this one, so you can compare voices fairly.

Beyond these previews

The model behind our premium voices supports 32 languages in total.

Standard voices

Standard voices are included with every plan, including Free. They are generated with Kokoro, a small open-source text-to-speech model that runs on our own servers.

For the amount of computation behind them, they sound surprisingly good. Grace and Kate are the most popular.

Standard voices in other languages

Kokoro also includes voices for a handful of other languages. They are noticeably rougher than the English ones, and we label them as lower quality in the app.

If you meditate in one of these languages, a premium voice will almost always sound better.

Custom voices

If you have your own ElevenLabs account, you can bring its voices with you. Connect the account with an API key in Preferences, under Custom Voices. Your voices then appear in the voice picker alongside ours.

You can add, edit, test, and delete custom voices, and set one as your default.
