Each meditation has its own voice, background music, music level and ending sound. All four are in Playback Settings, and you can change them at any time. You can also set defaults for new meditations.

Open Playback Settings
- Before the first play: in chat, choose Save & Play on a script draft. Playback Settings opens before the player.
- For a saved meditation: open the card's actions menu and choose Voice and Music. The player opens after you choose Continue.
- While listening: tap the Playback Settings button beside Play. Changes apply after Save Settings.
Each row has a Play Preview button for the voice, the music at the selected level, or the ending sound.
Voice
The voice list groups voices by type:
- Ready to play: voices that already have audio for this meditation. You can play them right away without using credits.
- Your custom voices: voices from your own ElevenLabs account. See Custom voices.
- Our best ElevenLabs voices and ElevenLabs voices: ElevenLabs voices included with Open Meadow.
- Gemini voices: Google Gemini voices that speak almost any language.
- Kokoro voices: the lowest-cost voices.
When a Gemini voice or an included ElevenLabs voice needs new audio, Playback Settings shows how many credits creating it will use. Voices that do not speak the meditation's language are hidden. Show Incompatible Voices lists them too. If the selected voice does not speak the language, Playback Settings shows a warning.
For English, Spanish and Portuguese, badges above the list filter the voices by accent. See Regional accents.
ElevenLabs voices are not part of the Free plan. On Free, they use extra credits only. For voice availability by plan and language, see Voices and languages.
Background music
Each meditation can use one track, or No music. A slider sets the music level from 0 to 100. The default level is 50. Tracks loop for the whole meditation.
| Track | Style |
|---|---|
| Ambient Clouds | Ambient |
| Gentle Piano | Instrumental |
| Peaceful Melodies of the Forest | Piano and nature |
| A Piano in the Sky | Instrumental |
| Strings in the Canopy | Piano, strings and birds |
| Bright Morning | Gentle piano |
| Forest Birds | Nature |
| Flower Garden | Nature |
| Rain by the River | Nature |
| Soothing Ocean Waves | Nature |
| Campfire by the Lake | Nature |
| Bittersweet Cello in the Rain | Strings and nature |
| Drums by the Bonfire | Rhythmic |
None of the tracks contain lyrics or vocals. All tracks are copyright-free. Some come from original recordings and others are AI-generated. You are free to use them as you like, including in downloaded meditations.
Ending sound
The ending sound plays once after the last words. It is especially useful when a meditation ends with a long silence, because it marks the end of the practice.
| Ending sound |
|---|
| Simple Bell |
| Temple Bell |
| Singing Bowl |
| Wood Blocks |
| Fluttering Bell |
| Brass Bowl |
No ending sound ends the meditation in silence.
Defaults for new meditations
Default Player Settings in Preferences sets the voice, background music, music level and ending sound for new meditations. Edit Settings opens them, and changes apply after Save Settings. Changing the defaults does not change meditations you already have.
Each setting can also stay on Default, which lets Open Meadow choose:
- Voice: your automatic preferences, then the voice of your latest meditation, and otherwise Nora.
- Background music and ending sound: your automatic preferences, and otherwise no music and no ending sound.
If the chosen voice cannot speak the meditation's language, or it is an ElevenLabs voice on the Free plan without extra credits, the new meditation uses Nora or another included voice for that language.
