I started researching this meditation by chatting with Claude. Once we had agreed on the subject, I asked it to write a brief that I could give to Open Meadow's meditation writer to create the full script.
This is an interesting example of how you can combine other AI chat assistants, such as ChatGPT or Claude, with Open Meadow to create your own meditations.
Claude wrote a brief for me, which I simply pasted into Open Meadow.
The voice here is Max, and the music is our “Soothing Ocean Waves” loop. The loop is not AI-generated: I sourced it from a real recording released into the public domain.
This was Claude's brief:
CLAUDE:
A Coastal Walk at Dusk — 30-Minute Guided Journey for Deep Rest
A 30-minute immersive nature journey designed to gradually lead the listener from gentle wakefulness into deep relaxation or sleep.
The listener is guided on a slow walk along a quiet coastline at dusk. The journey begins on a sandy path through low dunes, moves down to the shoreline, and eventually arrives at a sheltered cove where they lie down on warm sand to rest as the sky darkens into night.
The arc follows a natural trajectory from mild engagement (walking, noticing) to complete stillness (lying down, dissolving into rest). Pacing should slow progressively throughout, with the final minutes becoming almost silent.
Rich sensory imagery throughout: textures, sounds, temperature, light. Body relaxation and breath awareness should be woven into the journey naturally, not as formal instructions but as part of the experience of walking and settling.
The tone should be warm, unhurried, and intimate, like a companion walking beside the listener. Language should be simple and sensory. Pauses matter as much as words. No meditation jargon, no moments requiring effort, no wakeful ending. The meditation should trail off as if the guide is also falling asleep.
Setting Out
The last hints of sun rest low over the horizon. You find yourself standing on a sandy path, winding gently through soft dunes.
Air carries the scent of salt and a promise of coolness. Grass rustles quietly nearby.
There is no need to hurry. Each step can be as slow as you like.
Sand shifts a little beneath your feet, warm from the day. Small shells and pebbles are scattered here and there.
You might notice the way your arms swing, a gentle rhythm that matches your breath.
Far ahead, traces of sea breeze move along the tops of the dunes, cool against your face.
With each step, perhaps shoulders begin to soften, no effort needed.
Light falls in slanting bands across the path, dusk slowly arriving.
Maybe your eyes wander — to the tangled grasses, the shapes left by passing birds, the shadows gathering.
Every so often, you pause — not for any reason, just to stand and listen.
Somewhere, the distant hush of waves is carried close on the wind.
Down to the Shore
The dunes begin to open out more widely now, gradually revealing the vast horizon and the shifting edge of the sea.
With each footstep, the sand becomes finer, giving way beneath your weight in a way that feels soft and yielding.
The evening air has grown quieter as you leave the dunes behind. The cries of gulls grow more distant, replaced by the gentle pull of water along the shore.
The colors of the world seem to shift and bleed together — pinks and golds, now sliding toward the deep, bruised blue of oncoming night.
You take your time moving closer to the water, listening to the unique sound your feet make as they press into the cooler sand.
Perhaps the temperature drops slightly as the sun disappears. The skin of your arms and face awake to this subtle, refreshing change.
You notice the sea glass scattered at the tideline, the tiny pattern of bubbles in the foam, and the slow, rhythmic retreat of each wave.
If your footsteps slow down even more, that is welcome. They might even stop for a long while as your eyes fall on the moving water.
A deep breath comes, unhurried and natural. Perhaps the air feels fresher and more expansive now that you are standing beside the sea.
The quietness around you deepens with the fading light, and so might the stillness within you.
Along the Water’s Edge
Your feet find firmer sand near the water’s edge; each step is cushioned, cool, and grounding.
A long band of wet sand glints with the last traces of daylight, reflecting back the sky’s fading indigo and violet.
Sometimes you step close enough that the tiny, spent waves reach your ankles, the water swirling gently around you, then slipping away.
The sensation is fleeting—a touch of cold, a pull of the tide, then the return of the air.
There is nothing you need to do here but notice — the chill of water, the grains of sand against skin, the patterns light makes as waves shift.
Moving slowly, maybe your breath follows its own unhurried pattern — easy, undemanding, and perfectly at peace.
If your gaze travels out across the dark water, the sheer vastness of the sea might feel deeply calming to the mind.
Perhaps your thoughts, if any remain, simply ebb and flow like these gentle waves, without leaving a trace behind.
Here, you find yourself drawn further down the shore, following the faint, dark curve of the land toward a sheltered cove ahead.
Dusk continues to settle over the coastline, the light softening into a haze, the sky overhead thinning toward total darkness.
Into the Cove
The shoreline curves inward now, offering a quiet, private cove nestled securely between two low headlands.
In this hidden place, the sand is smooth and undisturbed. Large pieces of driftwood rest in pale, sculptural shapes nearby.
The wind drops away completely as you step into this sheltered embrace. The sound of the water becomes softer, more rhythmic, echoing slightly off the rocks.
You are shielded here, protected from the world, with only the sea and the stars for company.
Maybe you find a spot away from any footprints, a place where the sand still holds a deep, comforting warmth from the afternoon sun.
You might sit for a moment, and then slowly lower yourself all the way down, resting your full weight on the sand.
The earth beneath you carries the day’s stored warmth. It gives easily to the shape of your body, holding you in a gentle, steady cradle.
You are free to lie just as you wish — legs a little apart, arms resting beside you or folded over your chest, head cushioned by the ground.
Every part of the body can take its time now, settling as it likes into this widening, heavy stillness.
Perhaps the breath grows deeper or slower, or perhaps it only feels quieter as you merge with the sand.
Settling into Stillness
The sound in the cove is incredibly gentle — a rhythmic hush of waves, the soft edges of pebbles moved by water, a deep silence in between.
Darkness has deepened all around you, wrapping the cove in a velvet blanket.
Above, the line between the sea and the sky has finally blurred into one. Colors have fallen away, leaving only softness and the first cool light of stars.
You might sense your own body unwinding completely into the warmth beneath you, the tension of the walk replaced by a growing, heavy ease.
The sand cradles you with total support. Your clothing feels loose, your arms and legs feel heavy and warm, your breath is as slow as it needs to be.
Awareness begins to drift — from the breath, to the sound of the tide, to the quiet touch of the night air across your skin.
No need to reach for sleep or rest. If they come, they are welcome. Simply lying here in the dark is enough.
Gradually, you may notice that the boundaries of your body begin to feel indistinct and soft.
The warmth of the earth, the cool of the air, the gentle background hush of the sea—it all begins to blend into one single experience of presence.
If thoughts come, let them drift away like sea foam on the tide, leaving only the spaciousness of this silence.
Under the Night Sky
Your eyes, if you wish, may close completely now. The darkness moves in gently, soft and kind around your senses.
The rhythm of the waves is unhurried and eternal, cradling you as if time itself has finally slowed to a stop.
Perhaps your breath grows faint, then fainter — the rhythm of the sea and the slow tide within your own chest blending into a single pulse.
You are a part of the night, a part of the shore, resting in the deep cradle of the earth.
You lie here, quiet and unbound, beneath the widening canopy of the stars. The hush of the cove, the fading warmth, the endless softness.
There is nothing left to do, nowhere else to be, and nothing at all to hold onto.
Only rest remains now — gentle, wide, and incredibly deep.
If my words drift away and disappear into the sound of the waves, let them go. The night will carry you from here.
The sea continues its slow, ancient song. Rest now. Rest in the stillness.
